A school cook prepares meals over open firewood stoves on crumbling concrete platforms — fully exposed to smoke, dust and the elements. This is the daily reality for the staff who feed Chileshe Chepele's boarding learners.

Firewood — the only fuel source

Firewood & ash

Meals cooked directly over wood fires on cracked concrete. Ash, smoke and embers surround the food being prepared for learners.

No roof, no protection

The interior cooking area is open on multiple sides. Rain, insects and dust enter freely. Staff and children are exposed to smoke with no ventilation.
